Opportunity for Summer Mission Training!!!
Spring greetings and Easter blessings to you!
I am writing to advise you of an opportunity to participate in the 2010 Maryknoll International Service Orientation Program (MISO), offered here on the campus of Maryknoll Lay Missioners, in Ossining, New York, from July 8 – 23. This general announcement is meant for mission/volunteer faith-based organizations that send people to overseas sites.
MISO is a sixteen-day residential faith-based program offering:
• Cross-cultural competency training for overseas service
• Preparation for exposure to violence and other trauma
• Introduction to the spirituality of mission
• Conflict management training
• Spiritual retreat “Gospel Values and the Justice Imperative,” by Rev. G. Simon Harak, SJ
• Full-day workshop “Staying Healthy Overseas”
• Workshop on dealing in a healthy way with major life transitions (focus on saying goodbye well)
• Workshop on Relationships, Intimacy and Sexuality in a cross-cultural context
• Panel conversations involving people with overseas experience
• Opportunities to connect with like-minded people of faith in deep and meaningful sharing
• Day of Recollection “Integrating Mission Preparation”
The MISO program is based upon the experience of Maryknoll Lay Missioners successfully training and sending more than 500 of our own missioners to sites in Africa, Asia and Latin America over a period of 35 years. It is open to lay persons as well as religious members of congregations, with the majority of participants being young lay women and men being sent overseas for a year or two of service.
MISO is designed so that sending groups can maximize the ability of their people to do cross-cultural service work that is meaningful to the population served and rewarding to the volunteer sent overseas.
For your convenience, I am attaching a copy of our program brochure and registration form.
Even if your organization does not have an immediate need for the Maryknoll International Service Orientation Program, I ask you to consider forwarding this to a colleague who might find that our program fits their needs.
We encourage registrations as early as possible because space is limited and annual commitments of some sending organizations fill most of the slots. We provide this training on an at-cost basis, and in past years the final cost per participant has been about $1,200 (covering all costs but travel to and from our campus.)
Please contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to collaborating with you.
Peace,
Joe Regotti
