Social Justice Volunteer (Part- or Full-Time) St. Matthew’s Cathedral

Established in 1840, the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle is a diverse and multi-cultural parish in our nation’s capital under the care of the Archbishop of Washington DC.

As a Christian community of faith, we seek to become closer to God through worship, prayer, sacraments, spiritual formation, and fellowship. Strengthened by this, we proclaim the good news of salvation in Christ Jesus and serve our brothers and sisters with our time, talents, and treasure. Through our evangelization in word and deed, we strive to be the light of the world as proclaimed by Saint Matthew.

Social Justice Program
St. Matthew’s Social Justice and Community Services mobilizes the parish community by promoting opportunities to serve those in need and to give witness of our faith through concrete acts of love and service that overcome our selfishness and indifference. Specially, the Social Justice program works in eight areas:
  • Adopt-a-Family providing gifts of everyday necessities to low-income families in our community
  • Homeless Ministry providing for the material and spiritual needs of homeless adults in a welcoming environment
  • Single Servings of Service that allow parishioners to volunteer in a meaningful way without making a long-term commitment
  • Advocacy and Education, including collaboration with the Archdiocese of Washington’s Legislative Network and the Washington Interfaith Network
  • English as a Second Language Classes for adult speakers of other languages
  • HIV/AIDS Ministry
  • Ministry to the Sick, Seniors and Homebound
  • Respect Life Ministry
