More Great GLENMARY information

Call to Mission    August 2011

Fr. Dominic DugginsIt's been a very busy and news-filled past few months here at Glenmary, beginning on the last weekend of May when five men took the next steps on their Glenmary journeys at three Oath Masses. They, along with our other men in formation, represent the future of our home mission ministry. So, needless to say, it was a time of great celebration and thanksgiving.

Then in June, at Glenmary's General Chapter meeting, our new leadership was elected after much prayer and reflection. Father Chet Artysiewicz was elected president, and Father Neil Pezzulo and Brother Jack Henn were elected first and second vice presidents, respectively. (I was privileged to serve in both vice president positions over the last eight years while also serving as development director. Now I'm looking forward to focusing solely on my duties in the development office!)

And finally, in keeping with our charism, Glenmary is opening three new mission areas this summer in the Diocese of Knoxville (Tenn.). The three rural counties have never had a resident Catholic presence, and the people also have many other pressing needs. Five Glenmarians are looking forward to taking on these new challenges.

As our partners in mission, you are the ones who make it possible for us to continue our ministry through your prayers and generous ongoing support. Thank you so much for joining us in our work.

Aaron WessmanNew Transitional Deacon Reflects on His Final Oath
Newly ordained transitional deacon Aaron Wessman took time to reflect on his Final Oath to Glenmary after the May 28 Oath ceremony. He said the experience was a humbling one when he realized that the graces he has received far outweigh those he could possibly earn through the work he will do in his life.

Aaron and Crispine Adongo were ordained transitional deacons on June 25 in preparation for their priestly ordination next year. See video and a slide show of the ordination that took place in Kenya.

Mississippi disasterCatholic Help Is Key
After Mission County Disasters
Tornadoes ripped through northeast Mississippi in the spring of 2011, bringing death, injury, destruction and trauma. In the wake of these natural disasters----and several others that have recently struck rural, isolated Glenmary counties in three states---- the caring Catholic presence and help have made a lasting difference.

Know the Art, Know the Man
M.B. Mayfield's art isn't well known outside of Mississippi and the folk art world. But Glenmarians who pastored the former mission in New Albany, Miss., where he was a member, knew him well as a man, Catholic convert, parishioner, and artist.
