Murphy Initiative for Justice and Peace: Ministry Opening in Baltimore
The Murphy Initiative for Justice and Peace, a 501(c)(3) partnership of thirteen vowed religious communities, seeks to be a common voice for justice and peace in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Named in memory of Bishop Frank Murphy, the Initiative provides a forum for dialogue, action, and advocacy around four goals: peacemaking, justice in society and in the church, inter-cultural relations, and educating for justice and peace as guided by the Gospel and the body of Catholic Social Teaching.
The Initiative is seeking a new Executive Director. The director's primary responsibility is to initiate, develop and maintain those relationships which enable the organization to work as a common voice for justice and peace and to support and supplement the ongoing justice and peace work within each of the member religious communities.
An applicant should have a firm knowledge of and passion for Catholic Social Teaching. The individual seeking this position should be a self-starter and possess the imagination and skills to expand the Murphy Initiative to an ever-deepening level of effectiveness in the wider Baltimore area.
It is preferred that the applicant have experience working for social justice and peace organizations and have good organizational abilities that include a willingness to collaborate with and delegate tasks to staff and volunteers. The Executive Director must be able to work collaboratively with the religious community representatives on the Board, Steering Council and with interfaith justice and peace groups in the Baltimore area.
This opening is a part-time ministry with flexible hours. Salary is commensurate with part-time ministry.
A letter of interest and resume with references is desired by March 1, 2011. Starting date is negotiable.
