Solidarity with Southern Sudan seeks personnel...

Dear Friends of Solidarity with Southern Sudan,

Every good wish to you and the members of your congregation for 2011. We are beginning the next phase of our presence and work in Southern Sudan. At present two groups of student nurses are following the programme in the CHTI (Wau) and another group will join them later this year. Over 700 teachers are currently receiving in-service training in many centers.

Now that the building of two teacher training colleges is almost finished in Malakal and Yambio, we look forward to beginning the pre-service training programme later this year.

The pastoral programme has already sponsored two very important initatives - "101 Days for a Peaceful Referendum in Sudan" and a national workshop on "Reconcilitaion for a Just and Lasting Peace" facilitated by Fr. Robert Schreiter. Both these ventures were supported financially and logistically by Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Many other workshops and programmes are being planned for the coming months and years.

Therefore our staff of 25 are greatly stetched as this amazing expansion takes place. Solidarity with Southern Sudan is highly regarded within Southern Sudan and many turn to us for help. Therefore we are looking for new religious personnel to cope with this expansion and to replace some others who are completing their three-year contracts this year.

Would your congregation consider sending someone to Southern Sudan? Perhaps you could circulate the attached flyer to your members through provincial and regional offices? We would appreciate if you could also send this notice to any networks of religious that you know.

With gratitude for your ongoing practical and prayerful support,

Sr. Patricia Murray ibvm
