THE Washington DC-based Catholic Task Force for Africa has said it will take up some of the issues raised by Mongu Catholic Diocese Bishop Paul Duffy on what it describes as Zambia’s economic and social turmoil with the relevant institutions in the US.

In a letter dated October 8, 2010 written to Bishop Duffy by officials of the Catholic Task Force for Africa’s Africa Faith and Justice Network Offices, the US-domiciled organisation of Catholic priests, religious and lay people stated that Zambia was undergoing a moment of economic and social turmoil.

“Your Grace, at this moment of economic and social turmoil for the people of Western Province and indeed the entire country of Zambia, we the members of the Catholic Task Force on Africa (CTFA) in the United States write to express our solidarity with your diocese and the Catholic Bishops Conference of Zambia.  We join the many organisations and individuals who have come out to express their solidarity with you,” the letter read in part.

“Catholic Task Force for Africa is a coalition of Catholic religious communities and organisations seeking to analyse and influence US policy toward Africa based on principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
